The New Amendment 3, touted as the solution to to unrestrained abortion - IS NOT WHAT YOU'VE BEEN TOLD IT IS
Proponents of the new Amendment 3 assert it will "save more babies". But where is the evidence to support that claim?
In the same way abortion restrictions formerly rendered every abortion "legal" due to some claim made by a physician or mother. So the New Amendment 3 carries similar loopholes. EXCEPT NOW we're talking about amending our constitution to keep them permanently!
WHY ARE WE ACCEPTING THESE TERMS?
Since the passage of Amendment 3, abortion is now enshrined as a constitutional right. UNRESTRICTED destruction of preborn human life in Missouri. The proponents of the New Amendment 3 claim that it repeals the original Amendment 3. A statement that leads Missourians to believe that the original will be reversed, rendered null and void, no longer in effect.
Unfortunately, that is not the case. What they are doing is attempting to revise it to their own preferences. Political Power Play. Amendment 3 needs to simply be repealed - not rewritten.
Why do we have Abortion ENSHRINED into our constitution in the first place?
Every politician and ProLife lobby group in Jefferson City was fully aware that Amendment 3 would come to pass if we did not reform our Initiative Petition process. We had YEARS to fix it. The GOP had majority control of both house and senate. AND we had a sitting GOP governor.
WHAT HAPPENED? The leadership played politics and ran the clock out! TWO YEARS IN A ROW.
NO ONE who was a authorized to do so called up any emergency session to resolve it, IN SPITE of many phone calls and requests. They can do that for sports teams.
They are now offering a NEW AMENDMENT 3 as a "solution". After opening the door to Amendment 3 in the first place, they have a SOLUTION to our problem!?!
WHAT is THE ALTERNATIVE?
Repeal Amendment 3. It's a bad law. Bad laws should be repealed.
ASK THE PROPONENTS OF THE NEW AMENDMENT 3:
- Why does The New Amendment 3 regard Abortion as "Health Care"?
Abortion is not health care [1] [2]. Abortion is the intentional destruction of a human CHILD. It's not a miscarriage. It's not treatment for a pregnancy complication.
Health care provides treatment to RESTORE the proper function, as the body was designed to function.
- Why does the NEW AMENDMENT 3 Allow mothers to kill their unborn children at home?
Research shows abortion trends are moving to D-I-Y abortion. The vast majority of reported abortions are now SELF managed with pills.
The Guttmacher Institute reports at least 63% of abortions are done this way nationwide. That doesn't touch on unreported medication abortions.
The New Amendment 3 permits women to have self-managed abortions by which they starve or poison a child in silence and secrecy.
How does this translate to "saving more babies"?
We must never approve of this cruelty as choice or compassion. God sees, and God grieves.
- Why does it codify into the constitution the destruction of children who are alleged to be conceived in rape or incest, as well as those who are believed to have fetal anomalies?
NO CHILD SHOULD BE SENTENCED TO DEATH BASED ON HOW THEY WERE CONCEIVED.
Scripture is clear: Personhood is not based on circumstances. All preborn babies are image-bearers, equally known and loved by God.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you” (Jeremiah 1:5).
“For God shows no partiality” (Romans 2:11).
Even those who refuse to acknowledge God know that the subjectiveness of these "exceptions" render this rule unenforceable. We should all recognize that there is no instant way to determine if a child was actually conceived in rape. The reality of awaiting trial and conviction is absurd as these cases frequently take months or years to process.
In the case of incest, DNA testing is typically done after the birth of the child. While there may be some newer technologies allowing for prenatal testing, they often cannot be completed until later in the pregnancy, making establishing paternity more complicated than one might think.
Abortion on demand will still exist as long as someone claims the pregnancy resulted from rape or incest. This also opens the door to fathers being wrongfully accused.
A culture who pressures a mother to kill her baby who was conceived in rape or incest, has given the predator every incentive to target the most vulnerable women and girls - leaving that predator NO consequence for his actions and NO help for his silenced victims.
The new Amendment 3 will result in cultural pressure to murder "those kind" of unborn children and stigmatize those who are born disabled or were conceived in rape or incest.
The new Amendment 3 will incentivize false rape and incest accusations, simultaneously emboldening predatory behavior where real abuse is taking place.
WE ARE NOT MORE COMPASSIONATE THAN GOD.
Some Christians believe allowing abortions in tragic cases is merciful, but Scripture never pits justice against compassion. God’s Law is perfectly merciful and just. We do not show love by allowing the shedding of innocent blood.
“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you” (Psalm 89:14).
“The Lord, the Lord is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love and truth” (Exodus 34:6).
- Why doesn't the New Amendment 3 allow equal protection of the unborn?
GOD COMMANDS EQUAL PROTECTION FOR ALL HUMAN LIFE.
Equal protection means we defend all unborn children, not just some.
When we make exceptions, we violate the justice we claim to uphold, and God calls that injustice sin.
“Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy” (Proverbs 31:8-9).
“Justice, and only justice, shall you follow” (Deuteronomy 16:19-20).
The new Amendment 3 denies unborn children Equal Protection.
- Why aren't we focusing efforts on REPEALING Amendment 3? Why are we ADDING TO IT instead?
The New Amendment 3 is a bandaid solution to a heart attack. Proponents of this legislation HAVE NO GOOD REASON to continue to prop it up. There are, however, many financial and political incentives to push it through.
Beware of any politician or lobbyist group that DISMISSES efforts to simply repeal the original Amendment 3 and ONLY want to talk about ADDING TO IT. Or those who claim they ARE repealing it, when in actuality they are revising it. They will be known by their fruits.
WHAT SHOULD WE BE DOING?
SILENCE IN THE FACE OF EVIL IS COMPLICITY.
If we remain silent while efforts like the new Amendment 3 pass, we become complicit in the injustice. Christians must speak, vote, and act in line with God’s Word, never
succumbing to political compromise.
“Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, ‘Behold, we did not know this,’ does not He who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not He who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will He not repay man according to His work?” (Proverbs 24:11-12).
“So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin” (James 4:17).
Humble ourselves and pray to God! Go back to the WORD of God. Clothe yourselves with the truth, that you may stand in the evil day. Speak to the enemy in the gates - the Capitol gates.
